Grasping the various branches on the internet, so that it doesn't seem such an entangled vine, experience will come with practice...

Try running your mouse's arrow across each red leaf of the tree... it changes to a hand pointing; these are clickable leaves that bring you to pages or points within the world wide web that offer descriptions of:

Underlined words also lead you to linking pages...
Enjoy the experience.

The World Wide Web
is ONE branch of many within the structure of the Internet. It is accessed by users (various people) globally. Anyone computer has the capability of 'communicating, connecting and interacting' with another computer with the aid of various software. Dial-up to an Internet Provider, DSL, WebTV and even CABLE at this point in time, can access the Interent and the Pages of the World Wide Web. With use of a browser (a browser being a software "tool") this allows you to access and view page files stored in other computers. You, as a user may request a specific "location" (point of reference such as: URL: www.treelink.com) and the computer displays various information that has been stored. The information was entered by individuals from educational facilities, government offices, companies and by people at home, all over the world, who created files that were converted into in the form of pages (HTML files) you can read. This is also referred to as information super-highway.
Why do they call them pages? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Tim Berners-Lee is recognized as the creator/founder of the World Wide Web.
The Institutions of Education and of Government were connected to the Internet long ago... now NOT ONLY is it used for accessing the institutions' information, but also used for advertisement of major corporations, banks, and businesses, conducting electronic trade with other businesses and creation of personal pages.

Search Engines
are far better now than years ago and steadily growing to be more helpful in finding most specific items of personal interest to any user. These are servers specifically set up to SEARCH THE WHOLE INTERNET by word and word phrases. That is helpful for finding specific information of files and topics that may interest you within the Internet. If you click the underlined words of "Search Engines" (at the beginning of this paragraph) you'll to get to the link of search engines and indexes. AT least 10 of the search engines (the major ones) are on this page at a glance. Choose one (1) logo-icon , e.g. ALTAVISTA (still the most comprehensive search engine) to enter their website. In their site there's a place to type in the word(s), keyword phrases, or a name of what/who you would like to search for. Click the SEARCH button next to where you entered your words, to activate your request. WAIT for the results. This will bring a new page up for you to view, listing various links pertaining to the topics relevant to your request (a rather huge listing of matches) each listing having an underlined word or words to CLICK on to get to those pages. Searching may take more time than expected, but the indexes and engines do help considerably.

Electronic Mail (E-mail for short)
is used
to Send & Receive Mail "electronically" via the Internet. It is a separate branch of the internet also. It is only possible to send electronic mail to those who also have a specific e-mail address. I mean if you want to send electronic mail to your family & friends, they have to have an e-mail account and access to a computer. E-mail addresses are as individual as fingerprints of leaves, they vary, but are typed with a consistency appearing as such: name@a-providersname.com (the ".com" ending may vary by having .edu, .org, .gov or .net at the end of their e.mail address, depending upon who is providing the actual internet access to the person you are writing email to). Note that it may be important to use "exact" upper and lower case letters for mail, as some servers are case-sensitive.

Usenet / Newsgroups
is a bulletin board type of discussion system, accessed through E-mail. A list of subject(s) or category(ies) may be requested through your ISP in order to participate, you must subscribe to them.
A History or Perspective of Usenet Newsgroups.

Inter Relay Chat / IRC
Global Communications possible with others in a quicker response time than electronic mail. It is a popular way to communicate using a certain (downloaded FREE) software, instead of using your "voice" as in a phone call (person to person -or- conference calling). The software explains the various chat options after setting up configurations to be connected to CHAT servers in the Chat Networks. It may also be used for business communications, especially for across country or overseas. WARNING: This aspect of the Internet may be addicting and/or offensive as it has been known to create an imbalance in the natural flow of life (if not disciplined) or understanding other cultures.
